You can't out guess the weather . It may be raining when you depart for a birding destination, but clear when you arrive. Such was the case today. Birding was slow with the usual, Cardinal, Blue-Jay, Titmouse, etc. Then down the service road an Ovenbird was heard and three Veerys were spotted. Purple Martins flew overhead Back up to the entrance and bingo, two magical trees produced a bonanza of warblers. Superb views of Ovenbird, Black-and-white, Northern Parula, Magnolia, Blackburnian, Chest-sided, Yellow-throated and Prairie. Eastern Kingbird and Great Crested Flycatcher chased about. We had White-eyed, Yellow-throated & Red-eyed Vireos and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. All totaled 32 species. A great start to the first of the season birding field trip.
