Twenty six birders enjoyed "free range" of the 10,000 acre Half Moon Wildlife Management Area along with the cattle! The 12 vehicles with the riding Birders traversed the area and rounded up 54 species of birds.
The highlight species are as follows:
Common Ground Dove
3 Sparrow species, including Bachman, Field, and Chipping
Woodpecker Grand Slam, including Red-headed
5 Waders, including a Wood Stork high in a snag
5 Warbler species, including:Yellow-throated 3 Vireo species.
Additional highlight was the half mile hike to the new Boardwalk over
Mill Creek. This hike gave us our close look of a swimming Water Moccasin
A rather rare butterfly, Appalachian Brown, was also seen by
the group of 12.The Boardwalk is beautifully done and displays some
gorgeous scenery of the Wildlife Area.
Thanks to all that joined us and made the trip so productive and fun.
